This is what happens when a singer songwriter from fife ends up working with a classically trained violin player from Yorkshire. Rantum Scantum perform extensively around Europe, specialising in original and re-worked traditional folk material.
The Jennifer Ewan Band
The Jennifer Ewan Band presents an exhilarating melting pot of heart-felt original songs and old-time Louisiana Creole and Cajun dance classics. As well as performing beautiful new Scottish pop, this upcoming songwriter and her bayou band demonstrate an easy familiarity with the older dance music of the swamps of rural French Louisiana - featuring Cajun blues licks from accordionist drummer Kim Tebble and swamp-pop grooves from Ian 'Stretch' McFadyen on electric bass. The immediacy of Jen’s songs and calibre of musicianship has already earned bookings at Celtic Connections, Edinburgh Festival Fringe, several BBC radio sessions, and a slot on Traveller, a Brazilian TV show broadcast worldwide.
The Sunshine Delay
Going on a decade together, The Sunshine Delay have been winning admirers throughout the UK and the USA for their classy original songs, cohesive musicianship and a style that blends the best elements of country roots and power pop. Appealing to fans of REM, Matthew Sweet, The Jayhawks and Lucinda Williams amongst others, the foursome have chalked up two successful USA summer tours as well gigging intensively around the UK to appreciative audiences, building a loyal fan base.
Big on the Scottish Americana scene, impressive supports include opening for Dave Alvin, Chuck Prophet, Allison Moorer and Robbie Fulks. They have also played as backing band for the likes of Jason Ringenberg from the Scorchers, Dolly Varden, Amy Rigby and Tandy. Debut album , Outrageous Expectations, released in May 2004 contains 10 self-penned "classy country pop" songs delivering an exciting guitar driven sound with countrified harmonies: "a strong collection of material"; "a superb album... the kind of melody- drenched pop that nowadays is as rare as a happy motorist." BBC Radio Scotland airplay includes the Brand New Opry, the Tom Morton Show, the Iain Anderson show and a live session on the Arts Show with Claire English. Recently married, Paula and Dave have just returned to Edinburgh, reuniting with Iain and new drummer, Brendan O'Brien.
