Located in the heart of the Old Town, in the vibrant Cowgate area, we are a 700-capacity live music venue. Operating over two floors with a significant live music stage, accessed from all areas courtesy of a unique mezzanine floor, the quality, appearance and interior, establish Stramash as a ‘larger than life’ venue and one of the most unrivalled and individual bars in Edinburgh.
A little history
Stramash is located in The Cowgate, or in the Scots language – ‘The Coogait’.
The Cowgate is located 500 metres South East of Edinburgh Castle within the city’s World Heritage Site.
As a former Church built in 1859, The Free Cowgate Church was built by Edinburgh architect Patrick Wilson and combines amazing architecture, rustic fittings and fixtures, walls of distressed wooden boards, giant barrels, exposed brick and raw steel with a state-of-the-art contemporary design.
