GILCHRIST were initially formed by Gordon Anthoney, Gary Fraser & Shane Gorman a few years ago. Having all played in a number of serious bands over the years trying to “hit the big time”, their main objective was to have fun while writing and recording songs in Gordon's home studio. At the same time they wanted to learn more about recording and music production. It wasn’t until Gordon met bass player Kenny Donald in 2013 that the idea arose of getting together for jam sessions. These kick started the whole process of getting a live band together again. Shane, who was their original drummer, left the band to take up work offshore and it wasn’t until September 2013 that Derek Buglass joined the band and the first Gilchrist line up was in place with Gary on vocals, Gordon on guitar, Kenny on bass and Derek on drums. They went to work straight away on recording the debut album ‘Funky Philosophy' which is due to be released shortly via CD Baby and will be available to download on itunes and various other sites. Although Brandon Marchant joined the band as second guitarist shortly thereafter, he has recently left the band as he's due to return to Canada in the near future. The band have recently been joined on Trombone and backing vocals by Annabel Bloomfield.
The Dana Dixon Band
Singer and harmonica player Dana Dixon grew up in a house which was filled by her fathers music. Although living and raising a family in the UK her father was born in Texas, USA and it was his love of blues and American roots music which was a major influence on his young daughter. Muddy Waters, T-Bone Walker and BB Kings music was heard regularly in the household but it was the sound of harmonica blues by artists such as Little Walter, Sonny Boy Williamson and Big Walter Horton that really excited Dana. She soon started learning the harmonica and singing the songs she heard on her fathers records. With this in mind its no surprise that The Dana Dixon Bands sound is an intoxicating mix of authentic Texas, Chicago and west coast jump blues plus other influences such as rockabilly and 50s R&B.
