Under The Dogwood Tree
Under The Dogwood Tree are an original Americana/folk act from Edinburgh and the Lothians consisting of Alison Lyles, William Ancell, Callum MacKinnon, Catherine Gillespie, George Stott and Tony Irvine. Alison and William penned the band's debut album which was released in 2014 and produced and recorded in Scotland at various locations across the Lothians and Lanarkshire. The band are currently working on a variety of new tracks which will soon feature on their follow up album... Alison provides lead vocals and violin to complement William's guitar, dobro and harmonica playing whilst Callum accompanies with mandolin, rhythm guitar and harmony vocals. Catherine provides stunning harmony vocals whilst newest band member, George plays the upright bass. Tony provides drums and percussion to complete the line-up. The band can perform as an acoustic duo, trio or quartet, or as a full, well-drilled six piece band with two guitars, dobro, mandolin, violin, double bass, drums, complete with some fantastic 3 part harmonies. They can tear through the album bolstered by an eclectic list of covers for two hours or more. The band covers songs by The Band, Old Crow Medicine Show, Dolly Parton, Creedence Clearwater Revival, CSNY, Nanci Griffith, Joni Mitchell and others in a rocking Americana style with bluegrass break and alt-country stylings in a blend they refer to as “folk’n’roll”.
