Cat Named Jack
Cat Named Jack is a high-energy collective from Edinburgh which took root in 2013 debuting with a fully developed sound mixing soul, funk, and blues standards with inspired original numbers. Featuring the silver-toned sounds of lead vocalist Kat Loer, the band consists of nine high-octave members. The rhythmic precision of drummer and all round percussionist Callum Macleod, combined with seasoned lead/rhythm guitarist Jamie Crerar and punchy bassist Jim Strange, form a backline fully loaded with fusion points. Meanwhile, the lusty licks from Dougal Burnett (Sax), Paul Melone (Trumpet), and Iain McConachie (Trombone) in the brass section, coupled with the digital delights from Olivia Errey (Keys) provide sharp-edged grooves alongside deep layers of musical sediment. We’ve also just been joined by our newest member Claire McCarthy accompanying Kat on lead vocals and harmonies.
The Dana Dixon Band
Singer and harmonica player Dana Dixon grew up in a house which was filled by her fathers music. Although living and raising a family in the UK her father was born in Texas, USA and it was his love of blues and American roots music which was a major influence on his young daughter. Muddy Waters, T-Bone Walker and BB Kings music was heard regularly in the household but it was the sound of harmonica blues by artists such as Little Walter, Sonny Boy Williamson and Big Walter Horton that really excited Dana. She soon started learning the harmonica and singing the songs she heard on her fathers records. With this in mind its no surprise that The Dana Dixon Bands sound is an intoxicating mix of authentic Texas, Chicago and west coast jump blues plus other influences such as rockabilly and 50s R&B.
